Bacary Sagna, Arsenal’s first-choice right-back has resumed training and is not far away from returning to the Arsenal back-four, which is great news for Gunners coach, Arsene Wenger.
The French International was stretchered off after suffering a fractured fibula in the 2-1 North London derby defeat against Tottenham Hotspur at White Hart Lane on October the 2nd, and has been out of action since.
His absence, along with injuries to Kieran Gibbs, Andre Santos and Carl Jenkinson has left the Arsenal back-four very vulnerable and fragile. Due to the injury crisis at Arsenal, manager Arsene Wenger had to deploy center-back’s Thomas Vermaelen, 19-year old Ignasi Miquel, Johan Djourou and occasionally defensive mid-fielder Francis Coquelin at full-back positions. Lack of cover and experience at the back has resulted in Arsenal losing their last three successive Premier League fixtures. The losses have left them 5 points shy off a Champions League spot.
Sagna faces a race against time to feature for Arsenal against Aston Villa in the FA Cup on 29th January.
With important fixtures against Tottenham in the league, and against AC Milan in the Champions League fast approaching, the 28-year old’s return will be great news for Wenger and Arsenal.
