Ajax club captain Jan Vertonghen would only be allowed to leave the club if the right kind of offer comes along, and the defensive man wants a switch.Belgian international may leave Ajax

The Belgian international’s future is in question, as talks between Ajax’s management and the player’s agent has not taken place, despite Vertonghen’s contract running out next year. Several clubs are reported to be interested in signing the Vertonghen, which includes English Premier League clubs Liverpool, Tottenham, Newcastle, Arsenal, and Manchester United. Ajax boss Frank der Boer is adamant in resolving the club captain’s current contract issue, as he will not allow the player to leave for free.

He said, “We already told Jan last year in Turkey that we are keen to hold on to him. We will open talks early in March to discuss a new deal.”

If a deal fails to materialize, the management would have to listen to offers coming for Vertonghen and most probably sell him for a price lower than his market value, since Ajax risk losing him for free if no team buys him before 2013.
