Chelsea are eyeing a deadline day transfer bid for Ajax and Holland right-back Gregory van der Wiel.

Having been unable to lure the Dutch full-back to Stamford Bridge last year, Chelsea look set to renew their interest in the 23-year old in this transfer window, and if reports emerging from Spain are to be believed, then Chelsea look as firm favorites for Van der Wiel’s signature.

Though Spanish newspaper Superdeporte reported earlier in the month that Spanish side Valencia were in the pole position to land the full-back, but transfer talks between Ajax and Valencia broke down. There have also been some reports from Chelsea’s rivals Arsenal being interested in the Dutchman’s services, but there was nothing concrete coming from the Emirates Stadium.

With current Chelsea full-back Jose Bosingwa’s future at Chelsea in doubt amid strong interest from French club PSG, it remains to be seen if Bosingwa follows Brazilian defender Alex to PSG from Chelsea, and if manager Andre-Villas Boas wishes to make a late bid for van der Wiel.
