Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has warned his players against thinking that they will someday be bigger than the manager.
According to the Scot, his success as Manchester United manager is down to him being at the top of things, by leading his team for the past 25 years.
Sir Alex refers to a recent incident with star striker Wayne Rooney, when the experienced manager fined him and dropped him because of his night out on Boxing Day. And according to the 70-year old, his old famous ‘hairdryer’ treatment enables him to keep the players under his control, and reiterates his position in the Manchester United hierarchy.
In a local interview with online magazine Sabotage Times, he revealed, “I said it to the directors 15 years ago, maybe more than 15 years ago: You have to remember that the most important person at Manchester United is the manager,”
He also added, “The minute a footballer becomes more important than the manager, your club is dead – the history of this club goes down the drain,”
“I am the most important man at Manchester United. It has to be that way.”
