Liverpool left back Jose Enrique has warned his team mates of the consequences of losing points to teams at home, and that their hopes of UEFA Champions League qualification hangs on a thread with just four point separating 4th place Arsenal from 7th place Liverpool.
The title seems a distant dream for the Reds, as they look to secure a European place for next year. Given the massive investment in players like Charlie Adam, Enrique himself, Andy Carroll and Stewart Downing, it would be a disaster if they did not manage to get into Europe next season.
Enrique, who was originally nicknamed the ‘Bull’ by the Spanish press, has been an exceptional signing from former club Newcastle United, and has been a consistent performer making him a Kop favorite.
He said, “We lost (against United) but the truth is that we have to win more games at home,
We are still in the race to be in the Champions League next season.
It’s hard but Chelsea and Arsenal have lost many points too. Chelsea lost this weekend and we can’t forget Newcastle.
It’s really important that we have to play these teams at home and we’ll have another man – you play with 12 with our fans.”
He continued, “It is hard to beat Manchester United at home but against teams like Blackburn and Swansea (both draws) at home we need to win the points”
