Liverpool have successfully signed Sporting Lisbon youngster Joao Carlos Teixeira on Transfer Deadline Day.

The promising midfielder impressed Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish when Lisbon played against Liverpool back in August last year, where he scored against the youth team.

Liverpool were keeping tabs on the 19-year old ever since, and have lured the youth international for a fee believed to be £850,000. The exciting prospect , highly dubbed to be the new ‘Deco’ for Portugal, has joined Liverpool’s youth ranks. He will start off at the Reds’ Kirkby Academy under the tutelage of Reserve team head coach Rodolfo Borrell.

Lisbon are thought to be forced into selling the highly-rated teenage sensation in order to ease the financial burden off the Portugese club.

Teixeira is the latest product from the Lisbon youth academy, which boasts of developing stars like Cristiano Ronaldo, Luis Figo and Nani. The midfielder can take inspiration from players like Jay Spearing who have come through the youth academy and cemented their place in the senior squad.
