Manchester United have been monitoring the contractual situation of Valencia full back Jordi Alba for a few years, and now face a race against time, as the player looks to extend his contract to 2015, snubbing the little interest from the Red Devils.

United boss Sir Alex Ferguson will be aware about Alba’s current contract which expires in 2013, while the new deal being discussed by his representatives should extend it by further two years.

Sir Alex is said to be a long term admirer of Alba’s qualities on and off the ball, while his versatility adds to the package. With current United left back Patrice Evra ageing by time, the Scot wants to bring the Spain international to Old Trafford, in an effort to cement Alba’s place in the side within two years. His ability to play in the midfield, could provide Sir Alex with a new option, and a tactical trump card, like a certain Gareth Bale used by Tottenham Hotspur.

He will be a good addition

Wrong info. Alba is heading to Barca. Deal is in place. Don’t you guys check around? In any case, this is the tale of Utd these days. The squad is ultra-weak, SAF claims to “check-out/eye/scout” decent players but is unable to buy any noteworthy player(s) end up in other clubs. Of course he bought an average winger he didn’t need and a rookie keeper, at a total of about 40m pds!! Sadly, Utd are in decline and Thursday night football is proof enough.
